Paul Strauss, born in NYC, received his first inspiration for his mission in life as a young boy spending summers in the country. Early in life he met a teacher in New Mexican who taught him about the Shoshoni way of life and their view of nature. He also studied plants while on Hopi and Navajo reservations. Adding to his studies of the west, he spent time in the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Area as well as the Superstition Wilderness area in Arizona. Paul Strauss is the land steward of the United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary. A farmer, herbalist, and beekeeper, Paul emulates the life of the “Green Man.” From seed to harvest to product, he works intimately with the plants. The owner of Equinox Botanicals, a small herb business, Paul grows most of what is used in his products. He has lived on his farm for forty years. On today's show, we will review Paul's book, The Big Herbs: The Use and Abuse, Natural History and Identification of Major Tree and Shrub Species in the Midwest and Eastern U.S.

Rio received a Bachelor’s Degree in humanities from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master’s Degree in humanities from San Francisco State University. He has been a serious student of astrology since 1967 and a professional astrologer since 1976. Rio also writes monthly columns for local and national publications. He gives lectures and has been on radio and television talk shows, and teaches classes in astrology since the mid-70’s. Although his primary focus is spiritual (he has been a practitioner of Kriya Yoga since 1975), Rio also brings to his readings the experience of being a husband, father and grandfather. Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 1993.  Suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, she chose not to take chemotherapy or radiation. She opted to use a combination of surgery and Natural therapies to deal with multiple tumors.   She used Chinese herbs after an MRI in 1999, followed by an MRI in September 2001 , which showed no evidence of disease.  Ann founded the Annie Appleseed Project to share the information she found in her search for complementary and alternative cancer treatments.  She discovered that what worked as treatment, could often be used in an Integrative way along with conventional therapies.  She is a full-time volunteer Advocate, travels widely to attend conferences and meetings.  She mentors other Advocates, and runs a fantastic conference in West Palm Beach annually. Ann has served on many committees, does grant reviews, is a Consumer reviewer for the Cochrane Collaboration and delights in giving her point of view. Dan was the former founder and owner of Optimal Wellness of Long Island. Fratellone MD RH (AHG) FIM FACC.  Prior to forming Fratellone Medical Associates, Dr. Fratellone was Chief of Medicine and Director of Cardiology at the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine under the direction of the late Robert C. Atkins, M.D. Previously, he held positions as Medical Director of the Fifth Avenue Comprehensive Medical Group and Regional Director of Cardiology programs for the Ultrasound Diagnostic Schools. As a result of his development of programs and teaching in these positions, he is recognized as a forerunner in the field of echocardiography. Dr. Fratellone attended the State University of Stony Brook, medical training in London, and medical residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he also completed his Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease in 1994. He trained at the Nicholas Institute Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and the Division of Congenital Heart Diseases at the University of California at Los Angeles.
