Ellen Kamhi, PhD, RN, www.naturalnurse.com, interviews Rebecca Murray APRN, FNP, CDE . Rebecca  is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner for over 28 years who  specializes in the “Integrative Approach” to the prevention, evaluation and treatment of medical problems.  After graduating from ColumbiaUniversity and spending 12 years in “critical care medicine”, observing “first hand” the ravages of chronic disease states the “could have been prevented”, she decided to obtain her Master’s Degree in Primary Health Care as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in order practice true “preventative medicine”.  Her areas of focus and specialty include: Metabolic Syndrome/Insulin Resistance, obesity/weight management, evaluation/management and prevention of diabetes, hormonal imbalances/PCOS, risk reduction of estrogen-related cancers, and “medical nutrition therapy” for multiple health related problems.
 
She is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at YaleUniversity (Adjunct Faculty), is a preceptor for Yale University FNP students at the West SideSchoolBasedHealthCenter, and has her own private practice in Groton, CT specializing in Holistic and Integrative Medicine.  She has written numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, and serves many task forces that focus on the growing epidemic of childhood and adult obesity.  She speaks locally and nationally at professional conferences on the use of nutritional approaches to the prevention and treatment of numerous chronic health conditions. Fratellone MD RH (AHG) FIM FACC.  Prior to forming Fratellone Medical Associates, Dr. Fratellone was Chief of Medicine and Director of Cardiology at the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine under the direction of the late Robert C. Atkins, M.D. Previously, he held positions as Medical Director of the Fifth Avenue Comprehensive Medical Group and Regional Director of Cardiology programs for the Ultrasound Diagnostic Schools. As a result of his development of programs and teaching in these positions, he is recognized as a forerunner in the field of echocardiography. Dr. Fratellone attended the State University of Stony Brook, medical training in London, and medical residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he also completed his Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease in 1994. He trained at the Nicholas Institute Sports Medicine and Athletic Trauma at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and the Division of Congenital Heart Diseases at the University of California at Los Angeles. Peter Bongiorno is co-medical director of InnerSource Natural Health and Acupuncture , a thriving practice with two clinics in New York.   Dr. Bongiorno was a pre-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health, at the National Institute of Mental Health’s department of Clinical Neuroendocrinolgy, and he also researched at Yale University in the department of pharmacology before training at Bastyr University in naturopathic medicine and acupuncture. Dr Alexis is the daughter of a critical care physician and a special education teacher.  She attended undergraduate school at Villanova University, where she studied Comprehensive Science/Pre-Med and Bioethics, and attended medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, with an emphasis in  Family Medicine. Ellen Kamhi, PhD , RN. www.naturalnurse.com, interviews Jed Schwartz about HEALTH IS IN YOUR HANDS, Jin Shin Jyutsu.  Jed graduated from the University of Maryland’s School of Physical Therapy in 1977, specializing in Pediatric Rehabilitation. In High School Jed became interested in alternative methods to help heal the body and began a journey to discover modalities that he could use to help others. In 1981 he met Mary Burmeister and the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu. His search had ended and just begun with the Art of Jin Shin Jyutsu. The awaking that the truth lay inside oneself drew Jed to this Art which brought together all of the other studies he had done. Jed became a practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu in 1984 and discontinued his work in Physical Therapy in 1987 in order to commit to a full time study and practice. In 1995 he was selected to be on the faculty of the Jin Shin Jyutsu Inc., and is one of 25 international instructors. Jed has taught classes in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and New Zealand.
